WINTER VAN LIFE | DEATH VALLEY & MORE | SE02-EP9

We start this episode of our second season of winter van life wild camping in the Turtle Mountains of eastern California. We enjoy the beautiful remote landscapes, solitude and some random hiking in the surrounding hills. From there we start heading north towards Death Valley, California. On the way we stop to film the Fort Mohave Twins, a strange set of geoglyphs visible only from the air dating back 2500 years. We continue with historical sites by visiting The Grapevine Canyon petroglyphs where 250 panels have been documented. An impressive site for sure. Night arrives quickly and we scramble to the Wee Thump Joshua Tree Wilderness to find a remote camp site on BLM land among the Joshua Trees. The weather is grey with possible showers but we are treated to a short but spectacular sunset the second night. From there we push to Death Valley National Park where we manage to visit the most important sites at appropriate times for good light necessary for filming. We also manage get in some remote random camping along the Racetrack Road. It is graded as “4×4 High Clearance Recommended” road and the van handled it well until we found a suitable campsite off the road after a few miles. Dispersed camping in the national park is regulated and staying legal is a bit challenging. We enjoyed our night away from it all. That part of the park is so remote we had a superb night sky and perfect silence. Enjoy the video!
